Well, here are some of the last things I did before I backed in to a pool of lava.

I made a map. First time I actually ever made one. I actually filled in the upper half of this map before backflipping into lava.

This pine tree has managed to grow on a piece of coal. Amazing.

There were several large holes under the nearby body of water with lava in them. Interesting stuff.

I also found a pair Northern American Tree Cows. I promply killed them. Tree Cow steak is delicious.
And so, having died and deleted my world, I’ve started again. But more on that later.
I died. I backed in to a pool of lava to try and get away from a skeleton. Dang. And thus my world is no more.
Day ??
Still haven’t built a watch yet. Must build watch. I tell you what I did build though. I built a zombie spawner trap.

This is actually just a bunch of water that brings the zombies that spawn from the zombie spawner I found the other day down a few meters and lines them up. I don’t need the rotten meat zombies drop. What I do need, and you might be able to tell from this picture, is experience orbs. After much digging and exploring of the abandoned mine, I found some obsidian and enough diamonds to make a pickaxe and enchanting table. The abandonded mine goes down to bedrock so it’s not hard to find the lava needed to make obsidian. But enchanting stuff seems confusing. Not to mention I don’t have enough levels to do higher level enchanting. That’s why I built this silly zombie transport machine; to be able to kill zombies and take their exp orbs easily.

This monstrosity is my house. The bulbous tumor/mouth looking thing on the left is my enchanting room. Not that the room is particularly enchanting but that’s where the enchanting table and all the bookshelves go. The enchanting table is rather enchanting though. I like the spinning book. The main reason it’s so bulky is because I installed a lever to raise and lower bookshelves so I can manipulate the enchantment levels. When the bookshelves are put away, there are windows to look out. It’s a nice view. When the bookshelves are out, the windows are blocked but the enchantments work nicely.
Day 5
Well, my garden sucks. I might just fill it up with dirt. Fishing is a much easier way to get food. The output for gardening is just way too low compared to fishing. So I’m just going to fish from now on.

Day ?
I was planting sugar cane (which you can see in the above picture) and digging sand to make glass for my house when I heard the cry of a zombie. Being the middle of the day, I figured it must be that the zombie was in a cave beneath me. So I dug down, found some iron ore and also came across a zombie dungeon.
It was just a rather small room but I was going down on it from above (wow!) so I dug down and to the side to make a path around the dungeon. Then it was just a matter of cleaning out the zombies and lighting the room so the spawner stopped working. There were a few trinkets in the chest but nothing special. The dungeon was attached to a cave system.
As any spelunker knows, caves eat time. You go down and don’t know exactly when you’re coming up. There was coal and iron ore galore. There were even a few bits of redstone and gold! I think there was enough gold to even make a watch. Interestingly enough, far down below the first dungeon was an abandonded mine.
And of course, most abandoned mines are full of spiders. Not just regular spiders but cave spiders too. Nasty things. Normally I like to leave spawners alone so I can come back to them and farm drops but cave spider spawners get destroyed.
The mine itself is huge. There’s lots of ore though. Diamonds, gold, iron, coal, redstone, lapis, you name it. I even bumped in to a skeleton dungeon. On the several trips in and out of the mine I made, on the last one I was able to make first contact with an enderman.

I’m looking straight at him but he doesn’t seem to mind. I guess he’s a friendly enderman. At least he was. He teleported in to some lava, I think. I met one of his friends outside though.
Also not particularly threatening, this fellow was enjoying the sun. At least he was. Until I killed him.
Day 3/4
While hunting, I stumbled across an area of exposed stone in the nearby plains so I decided to start, in the words of a famous dwarf, diggy-diggying a hole there. I made a small room and then dug a spiral staircase down. I found a large amount of coal and a few pieces of iron and even some redstone.

But that was it. I didn’t have the tools to pull out the redstone yet so I left it there. I also hit bedrock soon after and broke all my picks. I headed back out to do some more hunting.
Only there was still nothing to hunt. No pigs, no cows, just a few chickens and a lot of wolves. I bet the wolves are eating all the pigs. I still had my mushroom stew so I was ok but I decided to start farming just in case. I used the few pieces of iron I mined to fashion a bucket then made a small field in my back yard. Hopefully the bread I can make from this wheat will sustain me.

Day two is the search for food. Fighting off a few creepers and skeletons left me hurting and hungery so I went out and looked for food. All I pretty much found was wolves though. Seriously. There where at least fifteen of them in the forest around my island.

I also found some more pumpkins! And wolves too. Yeesh. I’d call this the forest of wolves if I could name things. Anyways, there were a few pigs around and I managed to chow down on some of their delicious meats. I also came across enough mushrooms to make two bowls of stew, so I think I’ll manage for a bit.
Now that the full verison of Minecraft is out, I thought I’d try to do a playthrough. No idea what I’m going to do yet but I’ll give it a shot. I started with a world with the “grupperfish” (I think) seed. It turns out that generates Water World. I started on a small set of islands and swam south for a day but no land or trees or anything. There was a small lava pocket under the water in a collapsed sand cave but nothing to make tools out of so that world got deleted.
Next world is better. I started in the middle of a swamp, forest, and grass land area. Lots of trees, some lily pads, and grass for seeds. Nice. I picked up a few of the lily pads and moved on.

Not far from the spawn point was this little island. I decided to make it my first home.

It even had pumpkins on it! After plucking the pumpkins and setting up a simple but easy to defend stair way, it was on to night.
I spent my first night building. I ran out of wood before even being able to build a wall so I sat around and waited for night too end.
THREE bug update releases today!
I highly recommend you update both your servers and your clients.
1.6.3:
+ The renderer is now capped at 100 fps while there are chunks to be generated. The excess time will be spent generating chunks instead of rendering frames
+ The “limit framerate” option…
Hooray. I love fast bug fixes!
